Jeffree Star 2016 Holiday Collection

by - 1/09/2017

I didn't know about Jeffree Star Cosmetics when he first launched, so I missed his first holiday run. I'm not too bummed about that though, because it appears that the colors were all existing colors, just in white packaging, which I wasn't crazy about to begin with. But when I saw sneak peaks of the 2016 holiday collection, I was very excited because 1. The packaging is red! and 2. They are all brand new colors!

Let's take a closer look at the colors:

Designer Blood
Designer Blood is sort of like Unicorn Blood, except it has a gold sheen to it.

A true Christmas red! It's super vibrant.

Pumpkin Pie
I really like this color. It's not ridiculously orange, and it has a fun gold sheen to it. It sort of reminds me of Trinket from Sugar Pill.

This is the color I saw that made me swoon for this collection. I love purple, cool "nudes."

My heart also jumped for Sagittarius, which looks a lot like Deceased in the bottle, but had a much pinker hue.
Another lippie with a sheen, Chrysanthemum is a bit runnier in texture and harder to apply. It has a pinky sheen that is almost pearlescent.

Crocodile Tears
This is the only color I was "ummmmmm" about, but you know what? It's not that bad when you put it on.

Swatch time! From top to bottom:

Chrysanthemum, Deceased, Sagittarius, Pumpkin Pie, Checkmate, Designer Blood, and Crocodile Tears. Pumpkin Pie and Designer Blood look a little smudged because running your finger over it after it dries brings out the flakies.

On my lips, they look like this:

I know Deceased, Chrysanthemum, and Sagittarius all look very similar, so here's a side by side comparison:

I feel that they all look pretty different once you actually wear them. Speaking of which, here's what they look like with a full face of makeup:

I found that the texture of these lippies really varied. Crocodile Tears is really thick, and Chrysanthemum is really thin. I was actually shocked by how watery it was, considering every other lippie I have is substantial. It's almost bordering on a gloss. I had a heck of a time getting it to look smooth and not streaky. None of the others are runny like that, thank goodness, but I found some of them to be almost too thick. Crocodile Tears, Designer Blood, and Checkmate are all much thicker than usual. The rest feel fine.

Here are some closeups of my favorite shades:

Designer Blood
My only complaint about designer blood is that I wished the gold flakies were more noticeable.

Pumpkin Pie
I feel that Sagittarius is closer to Androgyny, just with more pink. I think that is my ultimate favorite out of this collection. As of right now, six of the seven shades are still available on the website (save for Deceased). But don't despair, because if you want Deceased, Jeffree is thinking about making it a permanent color! So cross your fingers! As for price, they go for $18.00 each, just like the other velour liquid lipsticks. There are still two bundles available, one with three (Designer Blood, Chrysanthemum and Sagittarius) for $45.00 (which means you pay $15.00 per lippie), and a set a five with Sagittarius, Chrysanthemum, Crocodile Tears, Pumpkin Pie, and Checkmate for $69.00 (just under $14.00 per lippie). So, if you want to save some money, you have that option. Six colors are available on Beautylish, but of course, Deceased is sold out. So, you still have some options if you want these shades!

Personally, I'm really happy with this collection, and I'm glad it's so much more wearable than the summer collection. I like that three of the colors have some more oomph with the flakies in it, and of course I love the red packaging. I feel that the colors really flow nicely together, and I do think of this holidays when I look at them, but they are colors that are easy to wear at any time of the year.
