Shiseido Senka Mineral Water Face UV BB Cream Review

by - 10/27/2016

I've recently become an Amabie sweetheart, and they were kind enough to send me this product to review! In addition to the product, I also got two sheet masks! How cute is that My Melody mask?

Anyway, let's get to it! This is the Shiseido Senka Mineral Water Face UV BB Cream. It is SPF 41, which is awesome because that is just one less step that I have to do in my routine. The packaging is pretty basic, nothing fancy. You get 45 grams of product, and there appear to be only two shades: "bright" and "healthy." Online, I found it retail for as low as $17.99. So in my mind, that's not a super affordable product, but it's not bad either. The product is meant to blend in with most skin tones, and is supposed to give you "sheer, light and natural coverage that brightens and corrects your skin tone..." It contains hyaluronic acid, which helps your skin retain moisture, and leaves your skin looking dewy.

The first thing I did was test it out on my hand.

Let's address the obvious here. It does not look like it is going to blend in well with my skin tone.

After blending it in, it is clearly too cool-toned for my skin. It also appeared a bit shiny, like regular sunscreens look on your skin. I wasn't too thrilled at this point. I decided to try the product again on the underside of my arm.

Okay, better. But is it just me, or does it look like it made my hair follicles stand out a lot more? I took a deep breath and put it on my face.

I applied the BB cream by dotting it on my face and blending it in with a Beauty Blender and set it with a translucent powder. I can see that it does lighten and brighten my face a bit more, and doesn't look as mismatched on my face as it did on my hand. I think I do look dewy, which is nice because whenever I use something "dewy" it makes me look "oily." The coverage is pretty light; it doesn't cover up my hyperpigmentation, which is a bummer. But it does cover up my pores nicely, and doesn't feel cakey or sticky.

After lots of sweating
As for longevity, it wears alright for the rest of the day, but depending on your skin type, you might want to use some blotting papers. I exercised in this BB cream too, and afterwards, I did look shiny (pictured above). But of course that's going to happen. I feel like if you sweat a lot, like I did when I exercised, the product is just going to disappear. As you can tell from the picture, it doesn't look much different than my before picture. You can see my pores and discoloration just as much as you could in my before picture.

I don't see myself using this product again as I don't feel that it matches my skin tone. If you don't have many skin problems you may like this product a lot as it is light coverage. But if you have many things you want to cover up on your face, this is probably not the product for you.
