Japan 2013 Day 10: Tokyo Disney Sea

by - 11/21/2013

There's not much that I need to say about Disneyland, we all know what that is. Tokyo DisneySea, on the other hand, might need some explaining. As explained from the Wikipedia article: "Tokyo DisneySea and its companion park Tokyo Disneyland are the only Disney parks in the world not owned by The Walt Disney Company...Tokyo DisneySea has an overall nautical exploration theme to it. There are seven uniquely themed areas or "ports of call". The entrance to the park is Mediterranean Harbor, which opens up to six more nautically themed ports: American Waterfront, Lost River Delta, Port Discovery, Mermaid Lagoon, Arabian Coast, and Mysterious Island.

I am just going to leave you with a total photo dump now:

This woman was SO happy to be meeting Minnie. So cute.

Please excuse my weird thumb. It does that sometimes.
This. This was yummy. It was a salt and lychee flavored drink. Sounds gross, I know. But it was good. There was a big band playing fun Christmas carols:

SO many different flavors or popcorn! Every port had a different flavor.

Tower of Terror
So, Kevin did not realize that the Tower of Terror was a ride that makes you go up really high, and drops you down. The whole 50 minutes we were in line, he thought we were in line for the Haunted Mansion. When we got onto the ride, he started to realize what we were doing. Kevin hates heights and does not deal with them very well. And I swear, the whole time I thought he knew exactly what ride we were going on. When the ride shot us up, and the door opened showing us how high we were, he freaked out. I was all, "WOOOOOOOOO!" and he was like, "AAAAAAHHH!" He had nothing to hold on to, and while my hands were in the air, his were grabbing the seatbelt of the girl in front of him. He nearly strangled her. lol

Indiana Jones Temple of the Crystal Skill ride, which is basically the Temple of Doom ride in Disneyland in America.

But this one was an actual roller coaster with a loop and everything! Kevin would not ride this with me.

Magic carpet ride
"Can I interest you in some wares?"

Look at this crazy double decker carousel!

Christmas tree!
Festive king Triton

I met Prince Eric! And he talked to me for a LONG time. I feel like he doesn't get to talk to other English speakers very much. He talked to me about Ariel, and about his best friend Max, and he wanted to know if I had a best friend too, and he asked if we swam here from Hawaii...it was so fun!

We ended our night watching the show, which was really weird, because everything was in Japanese. Hearing all the songs being sung in Japanese, like "Friend Like Me" from Aladdin, was really, really weird. lol

So this time, we managed to get to DisneySea without a hitch, and we had a fun time! It was really nice all decked out for Christmas. We wanted to end our night with a gondola ride, but all the gondoliers were on break, sadly. But we got to see the show, which was done on the water. It was really cool! Glad we went, and next time we will go to Disneyland.

Tips for Tokyo DisneySea:
  • Again, as at USJ, invest in the fast pass. Even on a week day, this place is crowded and the lines are long.
  • Night time is a little more magical than daytime. Make sure you stay and catch the show!
  • Keep your eye on the time and plan accordingly so you can get a good position near the water to watch the show.
  • If you have kids, it might be fun to stay in one of the nearby resorts.
