Kawaii Kauaian

I got a bunch of striping tape but never used it. I decided to tackle it for the first time, and boy was it a challenge. It's a really simple design, with just two fingers embellished, but it took THREE HOURS to do both hands. I don't understand why I find it so hard. But, I really, really like the finished product. It's probably one of my favorite manicures, and it looks good on short nails.

I'm not the hugest fan of Valentines Day, and the nail designs bore me because they usually consist of hearts, hearts and more hearts. I noticed the trend with Japanese gel nails for Valentines Day was based heavily on designs that looked like chocolates, and I really liked that idea! It was unconventional, and really cute. So I went with chocolate for my nails.

I really like the dripping chocolate, and although I do have a heart, I tried to make it look like a cherry cordial. For some reason, though, that particular foil really hates me. So it looks pretty meh. For my pinky and thumb, I drizzled some "chocolate" over a pink "candy." Fun!

The other thing about these nails is...I didn't have brown polish. So I had to mix my own, in two different shades. Not too shabby, if I do say so myself!

I also decided to do my nieces nails since she was spending the night. I used some pieces that I made in the silicone molds, but I discovered that they kind of melted with regular nail polish. I'm still not sure if it would work with gel nails. I'll figure that one out later.

I've been researching Korean skin care products recently in anticipation of getting my own. I learned of this place called jolse.com where they have tons of skin care and makeup products, and I decided I would buy from there. When I purchased my items, there was an after-Christmas sale, and by signing up, you get $3.00 credit! So I ended up saving a total of $12.00, which covered my shipping. Nice deal!

The products come from Korea, so I opted for the standard shipping, and received my items in less than two weeks. Not bad! I thought I would be waiting much longer than that, so I was pleasantly surprised.

I tried cable knit once before, and it came out pretty crappy. Using gel with acrylic powder make it rough and it didn't flow as nicely. I tried it again this time using just clear gel and colored gel, and it worked out well! I went over it a couple of times to get the 3D effect more noticeable. The negative space nail was a challenge, and even more so on my opposite hand. I just drew a heart, and colored in around it. I didn't have any gold glitter polish, so I just used some tiny gold beads to outline the heart.

I saw this tutorial for doing a Gudetama 3D nail and I had to try it:

The hardest part about doing this nail is making the face, which I had to do about three times before I got it right. It's time consuming, so I couldn't imagine myself doing more than one of these per hand. Maybe I'll try this again when I get some Gudetama nail decals (which I saw on Etsy). I did this on a fake nail, and just laid id on my thumb nail to take a pic. If I did this again, I would make it more 3D for sure.

I really, really loved my last nails but I didn't want to do French tips or deal with glitter. I decided to sharpen my stamping skills and did more snowflakes and some anorak sweater patterns. It took me like eight tries on my opposite hand. Ugh. Good enough.

I really, really love this manicure. Like, love it. I feel like after my first Christmas nail design and it going wrong, this made up for it. I managed to do a proper ombre, and I also successfully stamped! I am rubbish at stamping, but it worked out this time! I took inspiration from one of the Japanese nail salons I follow on Instagram (for the life of me I can't remember who).

Look at the snowflakes! Look at the wreath! And I am very pleased with my french tips! I love the contrast of the bright red and the soft white. On my other hand, It's almost the same, except my ring finger has a Christmas tree made of pearls, rhinestones and gold (like my thumb), with a gold star on top! I wish I had saved this design for actual Christmas...maybe I'll just do it again. That's how much I love it!
